State Representative Ryan Spain was sworn in to a new term in the Illinois House of Representatives on Wednesday during the inauguration of the 104th General Assembly.
“I am honored to continue to serve the 73rd District in Springfield. Our state faces many challenges, and I look forward to continuing to fight for common-sense solutions,” said Spain.
Since serving in the Illinois House, Ryan Spain has backed key policies to improve government efficiency, support local control, and spearhead positive change on issues related to healthcare, and transportation. Spain led the charge on expelling former House Speaker Michael Madigan as House Speaker and has continued to be a vocal advocate for much needed ethics reform. Spain has also fought hard against the severe gerrymandering work of Illinois Democrats and will always be a strong voice in favor of a fair legislative map. On a more local level, he has always enjoyed spearheading initiatives to bring jobs and economic growth to our region.
“With our state’s ongoing fiscal issues, I have remained steadfast in holding the majority party accountable to spending,” continued Spain. “That includes opposing tax hikes and legislator pay raises: self-serving politicians looking to line their own pockets have no business doing the people’s work here in our statehouse, and I look forward to shining a light on what must change to better our finances.”
Spain is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a double degree in political science and speech communication and holds an MBA from Bradley University. He is employed at OSF Healthcare System as the Vice President of Economic Development. Spain and his wife Ashley have two school aged daughters.
The House of Representatives of the new 104th General Assembly is comprised of 78 Democrats and 40 Republicans. Representative Emanuel “Chris” Welch of Cook County was re-elected Speaker of the House for another two-year term. Representative Tony McCombie of Northwest Illinois was re-elected as House Republican Leader; McCombie is the first female to earn the title.
Representative Spain’s 73rd District contains portions of Bureau, Henry, Lee, Marshall, Peoria, Rock Island, Stark, Whiteside and Woodford counties.
