Rep. Ryan Spain is Fighting the Causes of Tax Hikes

State Representative Ryan Spain is fighting against the root causes of higher taxes- bad state policies that lead to families paying more.

Chief Sponsor of House Bill 5782 to reject politician pay hikes in the State Budget, Spain opposes overspending and misplaced priorities, including over $3 billion that Governor Pritzker and the Democrat legislative majority have spent on illegal immigrants (HB 1317, HB 1456, HB 4097).

Spain supports restoring (HB 1201) downstate road & bridge funding taken in the Illinois Democratic Majority’s bailout (Public Act 104-457) of Chicago mass transit last Fall. Downstate energy taxes should not be taken for Chicago’s mass transit problems.

Ryan has opposed (HB 4294) Governor Pritzker’s cuts to Local Government Distributive Funds (LGDF) for local emergency response, public works and public safety. Pritzker’s policy pressures local governments to hike property taxes to cover the shortfalls.

Rather, Ryan delivered real property tax relief to seniors (Public Act 104-452) and is fighting for broad-based property tax relief for ALL homeowners. Recognizing that the cost of housing is high for many families across Illinois, Ryan has been a chief negotiator in reducing unnecessary building and energy code mandates that drive up the cost of new home construction. Mandate reduction is a better approach than Governor Pritzker’s proposal to strip local control for affordable housing standards.
