Rep. Spain Calls Court Injunction Win for Free Speech and Religious Freedom

Yesterday, United States District Judge Iain Johnston issued a preliminary injunction against the implementation of Illinois Public Act 103-0270 (Senate Bill 1909), which targets crisis pregnancy centers by seeking to level excessive fines against them for offering life-affirming care to pregnant women and families. House Deputy Minority Leader Ryan Spain (R-Peoria) issued the following statement in response:

β€œI applaud Judge Johnston for issuing this injunction and affirming the right of crisis pregnancy centers to offer services to pregnant women and families,” said Spain. β€œAs the Judge said, β€˜The bill is painfully and blatantly a violation of the First Amendment.’ I completely agree. This is a win for free speech and religious freedom against the use of government power to suppress organizations that seek to offer compassionate care to those in need.”
