Rep. Spain’s Committee Work to Focus on Human Services & Economic Development

State Rep. Ryan Spain announced on Friday that he has received committee appointments to seven committees as the 100thGeneral Assembly commences.

Among critical committee appointments for the newly elected Representative include the Human Services Appropriations Committee, Economic Opportunity Committee and the newly created Special Committee on Mental Health.  These roles fit well with Rep. Spain’s professional background in both the health care management and economic development fields.

“I look forward to not only being an advocate for reforming our state economy to bring jobs back to Illinois, but also recognizing that healthcare and human services are a growing, critical segment of our state’s budget,” said Spain.

“Representative Leitch served as a statewide leader for many years on the Human Services-Appropriations Committee and I pushed hard for that same appointment to continue this work on behalf of our region and its most vulnerable residents.  Mental Health is a critical piece of that puzzle and so I look forward to seeing what can be accomplished on the new Special Committee on Mental Health.”

“I have always believed that human services and economic development are intertwined.  A healthier business climate usually leads to better funded community based services.  Long-term economic growth policies will only better allow businesses and taxpayers to put our wallets where our hearts are and fund policy priorities like help for the physically ailed or disabled, mentally ill, and developmentally disabled.  These issues do not exist in silos,” Spain continued.

Spain rounds out his first-term committee assignments with appointments to the Public Utilities, Cities and Villages, Transportation: Vehicles and Safety Committees, and Business Incentives for Local Communities.
