State Representative Ryan Spain hosted a fun ice cream and swimming party at Shore Acres Pool in Chillicothe to celebrate the end of his Summer Reading Club program for 73rd District students on August 8.
The program is offered to encourage students to read over the summer and promote the lifelong benefits of literacy. Over 150 summer readers and their families attended the party on Thursday evening.
“Students who read over the summer enter the school year in the fall ahead of students who do not read over the summer. This is a fun way to reward students with a free ice cream and swimming party for simply reading eight books over their summer break and returning a form signed by a parent or guardian to invite them to a swimming party. It’s important for all of us in our communities to encourage students to get ahead by becoming better readers,” said Spain.
“I sincerely thank each student who participated as well as the families who supported them,” said Rep. Spain. “I also want to thank our event sponsors including Chillicothe Park District, Prairie Farms, Sonic, Culvers, Dairy Queen, Kroger, and Sam’s Club as well as participating schools and libraries for helping promote the Summer Reading Club.”
